Carport Repairs Cape Town — Roof, Frame, Rust & Shade Net Repairs

KB Carports repairs carports and shadeports across Cape Town, including structures we did not install. We replace storm-damaged and leaking roof sheets, re-tension or replace shade cloth, treat and repair rusted steel, reset loose or sunken posts, and re-fix carports that have pulled away from the house. Send a photo of the problem and we will tell you whether it is a repair or a replacement.

Carport repairs we carry out

  • Roof sheet replacement — storm-damaged, corroded or leaking IBR and polycarbonate sheeting, including matching existing profiles.
  • Shade net replacement and re-tensioning — sagging, torn or UV-perished shade cloth on an otherwise sound frame.
  • Rust treatment and steel repair — cutting out and replacing corroded sections, treating and recoating the frame.
  • Post and footing repairs — loose, leaning or sunken posts, and footings that have lifted or cracked.
  • Storm and wind damage — re-securing lifted roofs, replacing bent purlins and bracing, straightening racked frames.
  • Leak and flashing repairs — where a carport meets the house wall or fascia and water is getting in.
  • Gutters and downpipes — blocked, detached or badly falling gutters.

What usually goes wrong with carports in Cape Town

Three things account for most of the repairs we are called out to.

  • Wind. Cape Town’s south-easter finds any under-specified structure. Roofs lift at the fixings, frames rack out of square, and lightweight sheeting bends. Under-sized posts and shallow footings are the usual root cause.
  • Coastal salt. Along the West Coast and Atlantic Seaboard, salt-laden air attacks painted mild steel quickly. Rust typically starts at cut ends, welds and fixings rather than in the middle of a member.
  • UV on shade cloth. Shade net is a consumable. It gradually loses tension and strength in the sun until it sags or tears — usually the cloth needs replacing, not the frame.

Repair or replace?

If the frame is straight, properly founded and structurally sound, repairs are almost always the cheaper answer — new roof sheets or new shade cloth on an existing frame is a small job. Replacement makes more sense when the posts or footings are undersized for the site, when rust has gone through structural members, or when the structure was built too light for its wind exposure in the first place. We will say plainly which one you are looking at.

If replacement is the answer, current carport prices cover every size and material, and we can usually reuse the existing slab or paving.

What a carport repair costs

Repairs are quoted per job, because the cost depends entirely on what failed and how much of the structure is affected — replacing shade cloth on a sound frame and rebuilding a rusted-through steel carport are very different jobs. Send photos with your enquiry and we will give you an indication before we come out, then a firm price after we have looked at it.

Carport repair questions

Do you repair carports you did not install?

Yes. Most of our repair work is on structures built by someone else.

Can you replace just the shade net?

Yes, if the frame is sound. Re-covering an existing shadeport frame is one of the most common jobs we do.

My carport roof leaks where it meets the house. Can that be fixed?

Usually. Leaks at that junction are normally a flashing or fixing problem rather than a structural one.

Which areas do you cover?

The Cape Town metro and the Winelands — see our service areas.
